My Journey Towards Earth Science Education

I realized I was interested in Earth Science at an incredibly young age. I was always interested in the stars and planets. My grandma used to take me to local planetarium shows and bought me a night light that would display constellations on the ceiling. I remember staying up at night trying to identify each constellation. I saw Saturn rings through a telescope at nine years old, and at twelve I got my very own telescope for my birthday.

I first thought I wanted to be an astrophysicist, but as I got older, I realized teaching was my calling.

During 9th grade at Rockford High School, I took an Earth Science course. This class was by far my favorite science class. The teacher connected with the topics, making what some students considered boring (e.g. rocks) incredibly interesting to me. As the years progressed and I realized I wanted to become a teacher, I knew I wanted to have Earth Science as my teachable minor.

I attended Western Michigan University for a year, double majoring in English and Earth Science education, but transferred to Michigan State University my sophomore year to major in English and minor in Earth Science education.

I still love to look at the stars and I have numerous rock collections.
