If bees died, humans would have four years to find a solution. Four years. In order to combat this, I am a beekeeper. I got my first hive at the end of my junior year of high school. My bees swarmed during the first year, which is very common. Since then, we have gotten new bees through swarms, and rescue displaced bees rather than buying new hives.
Throughout my life I have been a member of numerous green clubs. I helped form my high school's Green Team, I participated in Greta Thunberg's Global Climate Strike, am a member of The Sierra Club, and am currently looking for a branch of the Sunrise Movement to join at Michigan State. I encourage everyone to take action on ending climate change, simultaneously taking action towards saving the world we live in.
Did you know that over 50% of landfill could be removed if it had simply been composted rather than thrown away? Composting is incredibly important to me. At home, my family has a compost pile, aerated by our chickens. I am currently working on starting a personal vermicomposting bin (worm composting) to take with me when I go to school.
